I am a Catastrophizer

Building Women

Coaching for Women in Construction

Are you the type like me to lay in bed thinking about worst case scenarios? I learned I am a Catastrophizer - Which can be useful. But I had to learn in my case, I had a pattern of worrying about things that could go wrong because I was avoiding a conversation that needed to be had.

Proactive Communication - Updates

I learned over the years that sharing my concerns and possible bad news early was a differentiator for me. I learned the earlier I shared the information, the more people and time the team had to make adjustments, corrections or future decisions. Keeping them to myself only delayed the inevitable and in my case, ruined my sleep. In construction, these apply to a variety of topics:

  • Schedule Issues - a piece of equipment work arrive on time

  • Performance Issues - we aren't making productivity rates and may face a financial impact

  • Banking and Bonding Relationships - we aren't going to hit are targets

Early proactive communication only helps your business and the project relationships. This can be a differentiator for your business or yourself personally. Nobody likes to hear bad news. But nobody likes to hear bad news when it is too late to do something about it. Where else can you be proactive in your communication?
